Gosaikunda Lake Trek – 9 Days

Days 1-2 Arrive in Kathmandu, Nepal’s capital. Your representative awaits you in the airport and transfers you to your hotel. If you come early in the morning, you can spend the rest of the day resting, relaxing, having a stroll around the city or doing some sightseeing. You will get a briefing in the evening before your adventure.

Tips:

• Arrive to a day of rest before the hike begins.
• The one exception is keeping important papers in an easily accessible place along with any valuables.
• Before beginning your trek, make sure you are well hydrated and drink a lot of water.

The morning begins with an early scenic drive from Kathmandu to Dhunche, the main entry point to the Langtang region. The drive should take about 7-8 hours and reveal stunning views of the mountains, terraced fields, and rivers. After reaching Dhunche, you will spend the night in a local teahouse.

Tips:

• Dress comfortably for the long drive.
• Take along some snacks and u00a0water for the ride.
• Expect winding non-highway roads and rough terrain.

You will start walking after breakfast to Sing Gompa, a pristine Buddhist monastery with amazing views of the Himalayas. The trail is a gradual ascent through verdant forests of oak, rhododendron and bamboo. As you climb higher and the landscape opens up, you will start to see snow capped peaks like Langtang Lirung and Ganesh Himal. It takes about 5 to 6 hours of walking, and you will pass the little village of Chandanbari, known for its cheese factory. Sing Gompa is a quiet place with a monastery that provides a peaceful place to sit back and enjoy the natural beauty surrounding you.

Tips:

• Take your time so you dont get altitude sick.
• And plenty of reason to keep your camera handy for the epic mountains.
• Pack a windproof jacket; weather in the mountains can shift quickly.

Your today’s hike is the best part of the trip as you will arrive at the sacred Gosaikunda Lake. It takes about 5 to 6 hours, on a hike which traverses high-altitude alpine meadows. Gosaikunda, the initial views of its pristine blue waters will be opened as you reach to the lake. Holiness of this lake is preserved among Hindus and thousands of devotees visit it as a pilgrimage during the festival Janai Purnima. There are several smaller lakes around in an extraordinary magnificent landscape thatis placed in breathtaking nature. The night would be peaceful at Gosaikunda, and you can wander around the lake to feel a spiritual euphoria.

Tips:

• Due to the high altitude, please drink plenty of water to acclimatize.
• Drift quiet time at the lakeside to admire its picturesque beauty.
• Also be ready for cooler temperatures, especially at night.

This day, is for rest and exploration. You will get some extraordinary perspectives around the lake and a short visit to other smaller lakes like Saraswati Kunda, Bhairab Kunda, and so forth. It is also thought to purify the soul, so many trekkers take a dip in the holy waters of Gosaikunda Lake. The peaceful surroundings are ideal for contemplation, photography or just a short rest before the next part of the journey.

Tips:

• Use this day for easy walks around the lakes to further help with acclimatization.
• Honour the holy nature of the lake and the rituals of local people.

Starting your descend to Gopte after a sound sleep at Gosaikunda. The trail descends and is less demanding than the days before. It should take 6 to 7 hour through rocky terra, meadows, and thick forests. You can admire beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and valleys along the way. Gopte is a small village where you’ll spend the night at a teahouse.

Tips:

• Be gentle on the descent so as not to strain your knees.
• Watch out for native wildlife on the trail.
• Stay hydrated as coming down can be as tiring as going up.

Today, we continue our trek downwades to Melamchi Gaon, a pretty village in the Helambu region. The downhill trek takes approximately 6 hours, and during this time frame you will encounter numerous streams and small villages, experiencing the rural lifestyle of the region. There are forests lining the path, and as you lower on altitude, the temperature increases. Melamchi Gaon is perfect to explore the local culture and experience Sherpa hospitality.

Tips:

• Some areas of the trail can be slick, so watch your footing.
• Take your time; savor the picturesque descent.
• The book presents a fine line that I really relate to, using stereotypes three slavic men along with some local stuff to create a connection with the community and understand how the community works.

On the last day, you will trek for 4 to 5 hours to arrive at the roadhead, Melamchi Bazar. Today, you will drive back to Kathmandu in a private vehicle that takes about 6 to 7 hours. Arrive in Kathmandu, transfer to hotel to relax and reflect upon the fantastic journey you were on. In the evening, you will celebrate the end of your trek with a dinner with your trekking team.

Tips:

• Brace yourself for the hours-long return to Kathmandu.
• Extend away after the hike to forgive your sore muscles.
• Pause to reflect on the experience and the killer views.

You will be transferred to Tribhuvan International Airport for your departure depending on your flight time. If there is time between your flight, you can either explore Kathmandu’s historic sites or go for last-minute shopping for souvenirs.

• Allow an extra few hours for airport procedures.
• You will be merited with team and fellow trekkers.
