Khopra Ridge Trek – 12 Days

Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to the hotel. After check-in, you will meet your guide, discuss your trek. You will have some leisure time to stroll through the busy streets of Thamel; shopping trekking gear and souvenirs. Dinner is also welcome in the evening with the guide and other trekkers.

Tips:

• Make sure you drink and rest after the flight.
• Have all your documents handy for the next day hike.
• Take short walks in Kathmandu to acclimatize to the altitude.

Following breakfast, begin your drive towards Pokhara; it is around 6-7 hrs of driving time with a private vehicle. You’ll get views of the Trishuli River and the surrounding mountains. After few more hours of travelling you will reach Pokhara. Check in Hotel and rest eg the day.

Tips:

• Pack a few snacks for the road.
• It can get chilly on the drive, so dress in layers.
• And don't forget to have your camera ready for the beautiful scenes.

Following an early breakfast, we drive to Nayapul and we shall start trekking. It takes 1.5 hours by car through picturesque villages, rivers, and terraced fields. We trek from Nayapul toward Tikhedhunga. It is an easy trail, with the walking being going gently upward through a greenery and tiny settlements. The way provides stunning overlooking eyes on the mountains and the valleys below. We walk for a few more hours until we arrive to Tikhedhunga, a small village in the hills. Tikhedhunga is a wonderful place to unwind and enjoy the tranquil environment.

Tips:

• Wear good trekking shoes as the trail is uneven.
• Drink plenty of water during the walk.
• Protect your skin from the exposure of the sun with the sunscreen.

Today is quite a long day of trekking but the views and excitement make it also worth it. It’s a long ride at first, then a steep ascent up a series of stone steps. The climb is a steep one but the wooded trail, lined with rhododendron and oak trees, makes the journey enjoyable. After an extensive trek, we pass in a number of villages which include Ulleri where the local people contact you and share their culture with you. Hours later we arrive in Ghorepani, a popular stop on the Annapurna circuit, which sits at 2860m. At here, you will have a stunning view of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri range.

Tips:

On a side note: Rest regularly, do not overwork yourself!

If you feel fatigued, just break it down and focus on enjoying the journey.

Pack a light jacket, because the evening at Ghorepani can be a bit chilly.

Today we rise early to experience the magnificent sunrise from Poon Hill. It is a brief hike from Ghorepani — roughly 45 minutes to reach your viewpoint, where you’re rewarded with unhindered views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges, the mountain tops tinged with pink from the first light of day. After a while here, we descend back to Ghorepani for our breakfast and continue trekking towards Tadapani. The trail gradually descends through forests and small settlements to arrive at Tadapani, before climbing once again. The trek in this section passes beautiful views of the Machapuchare (Fish Tail) and surrounding peaks.

Tips:

• Headlamp for early morning Poon Hill hikes
• Dress in layers, it can be cold in the morning but warm during the day.
• Take it slow when walking downhill to avoid knee strain.

Today’s hike winds through dense rhododendron, oak and bamboo forests with a great opportunity for spotting wildlife, including monkeys and numerous bird species. The path gradually gains and loses altitude, with glimpses of the stunning heights of Annapurna South and Machapuchare. As we get closer to Sinuwa, we start to move away from the lush forests and into more alpine terrain. From here, you will reach Sinuwa – a small hilltop village that allows you to relax in the lap of nature.

Tips:

• Expect some uphill stretches, particularly as you approach Sinuwa.
• The trail is a good place to keep the camera ready for the wildlife.
• Enjoy the magnificent view of the Annapurna range.

Khopra is the highlight of the trek as it provides a breathtaking panoramic view of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges. You walk through beautiful forests, past a few settlements, until the trail opens out to breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks. It can be a challenging climb, but when you reach the ridge, this views are worth every step. Spend some time exploring the area and the stunning views after reaching the ridge. Khopra Ridge is one of the best places to take your mountains pictures that last your entire trip.

Tips:

• As we will be going to higher altitudes, please pace yourselves to avoid altitude sickness.
• Stay hydrated by drinking a lot of water.
• Stop to soak in the views once you reach Khopra Ridge.

Today is a unique day of exploration. We pass Khayer Lake, a sacred lake at 4,500 meters. The trek to the lake is challenging because of the elevation and terrain but the reward is definitely worth it! It follows through alpine meadows and rugged mountain terrain, with stunning views of Annapurna South, Machapuchare and other surround-ing peaks. When you arrive at the tranquil lake, you can soak in the peaceful atmosphere and the stunning scenery. We spend some time at the lake, but return to stay the night at Khopra Ridge.

Tips:

• Bring food for the long hike to keep yourself energized.
• Think about the elevation and pay attention towards yourself.
• Be sure to take breaks and enjoy the scenery!

Having enjoyed a memorable experience at Khopra Ridge and Khayer Lake we start descending back down to lower altitudes. The trek leads us into charming village villages, terraced fields, lush forests. We then walk down through Swanta, a village famous for its agriculture and culture. Swanta provides a peaceful, rustic respite from the long days of trekking. Green fields and rolling hills abound in the surrounding landscape.

Tips:

• The downhill is hard work so relish the descent but watch your feet on the downhill trail.
• Get your camera on standby for images of the quaint villages.
• Explore the land and local farming practices.

We hike back to Ghorepani on an equally scenic trail. The trail slowly climbs, as we catch views of glorious hills and villages. Pay the last respects to the power peaks and beautiful woodlands along the way. Ghorepani is a great spot to rest, reflect on your journey thus far, and prepare yourself to head downwards. Relax at the end of another day’s walk, ready for the final leg of your journey.

• As you walk uphill to Ghorepani, take it slow.
• Revel in the serenity of the neighborhood as you relax.
• Seize the moment to speak with other trekkers.

We begin the last day of the trek downhill back to Nayapul, where we end this trek. The descent is gradual, through terraced fields, then forests. After we reach Nayapul, we drive back to Pokhara where you can spend your day in a hotel, relaxing after completing the trek. Spend the evening relaxing by the lakeside or strolling through Pokhara´s colorful streets.

• As you descend to Nayapul, reflect on your journey.
• Go to Pokhara and give yourself a good meal.
• After the long trek, take it easy and relax.

After a good sleep in Pokhara, we return to Kathmandu by drive. The ride offers beautiful views, and you'll have plenty of time to ponder the last few weeks of trekking the Annapurna trail. When you reach Kathmandu, you will experience a farewell dinner and share the stories of your exploration with the other trekkers before going home.
